SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS WHICH CAN BE APPLIED NEED TO BE COMMERCIALIZED

BUT COMMERCIALIZATION IS AN ENTREPRENEURIAL TASK

European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the EIT’s Jumpstarter, in cooperation with Commercialization Reactor, an international platform for science commercialization, University of Tartu, University of Ljubljana, and University of Zagreb launch a project designed to facilitate and support the creation of science-based (deep-tech) start-ups.

The first step is the “COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” program, during which all possible types of commercialization will be explained, specifically focusing on Commercialization Reactor’s methodology.

“COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” PROGRAM

START DATE: 27.09.2022

For more than 10 years, Commercialization Reactor’s methodology has been tested and validated in Latvia, where more than 130 startups were formed with international scientific teams and local entrepreneurs at their core 70 startups of which received investments and continue to develop their business. The need for Commercialization Reactor and its success were further recognized by the EIT, and it is now being expanded to 3 more countries: Estonia, Slovenia, and Croatia

ABOUT “COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” PROGRAM

On completion of the “COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” program, you will gain:

  • After successfully completing the first part of the“COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” (before “one-to-one sessions”):
    • Knowledge of different commercialization types and an understanding of the type of commercialization that fits you the most.
    • Self-determination, which path of commercialization is right for you. It should be specifically suited for you because there are more opportunities for commercialization than a scientist sees in their routine.
    • Insight into why commercialization is important, what the role of the university is in this process, and what kind of support you can receive from your university, project partners and Commercialization Reactor.
    • Understanding of the deep-tech startup life cycle and the roles of scientists and entrepreneurs at each stage (with real cases).

  • After successfully completing the second part of the “COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” (following the “one-to-one sessions”):
    • Readiness and opportunity to present your technology at upcoming Ignition Events, with the next, 20th Ignition Event happening on 11-12th November 2022. Here, you will be able to present your scientific achievements to Latvian, Estonian, Slovenian, and Croatian entrepreneurs and possibly form a start-up team.

TESTIMONIALS

FIND OUT WHAT ONE OF OUR ALUMNI SAYS ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAM:

“I highly recommend that every scientist interested in commercialization of their research results take the masterclass provided by Commercialization Reactor. The class provides an excellent introduction to the commercialization process and deep-tech business development, including the things required to succeed and an overview of the benefits for scientists. Experienced innovators and investors share their stories and give practical advice here. It’s also a highly interactive class with interesting discussions as well as hand-on exercises.” – Kristaps Jaudzems, Lead Researcher at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis.

FIND OUT WHAT SCIENTISTS SAY ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE OF COMMERCIALIZATION USING COMMERCIALIZATION REACTOR’S METHODOLOGY AND PARTICIPATION AT THE IGNITION EVENT:

“We had to find a partner who is interested in selling our product. We started working with Karlis, he is an entrepreneur who is guiding us. Our partner is searching for additional funding all the time, talking with different people, going to congress, and being involved in different incubators. During the Commercialization Reactor program meeting Karlis, our partner, it was a good thing, because he took over huge responsibilities for us. I don’t think I could move forward with this commercialization if it wasn’t for him.” – Katarina Šimunović, Co-founder at Elogium & Post-Doc Researcher at the Biotechnical Faculty at University of Ljubljana.

“In April 2018, we participated at the 12th Ignition Event of Commercialization Reactor. We were a team of academics, we knew what to do in the lab and how technology might work, but we needed a dedicated team that could push the project to commercialization, so that is the reason that pushed us to participate in Commercialization Reactor. It was an amazing experience. We had great advice, great guidance from the Commercialization Reactor, and had the opportunity to present our technology to entrepreneurs. In October 2018, VeritaCell was created as a commercial entity.” – Dr. Nik Georgopoulos, Co-founder of VeritaCell & Associate Professor in Cell Biology at the University of Huddersfield.
